The Way I See It

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Just got back from seeing Raphael Saadiq live and in concert, and I must say it was a quality quality show. Dude has a new album out, which some say has a 60s throwback sound to it thus causing people to “hate” or judge it unfairly. Either way I know its a great album, and you should pick it up. The dope thing about Saadiqs performance is that he treated it like a hip hop DJ, meaning he was doig only one or two verses of his songs from Tony! Toni! Tone! and Lucy Pearl, but would do all of his new material. I like that approach - keep it moving to the future in the present, while respecting and showing love to the past. If Saadiq comes thru your town, definitely don’t miss out on a chance to see a great musician and excellent performer.

Kid Sister Feat. David Banner - Family Reunion….Upon first listen the song is good, Diplos production is solid and the autotuned(?) hook is ok.

However, family reunions occur in the summer so the vibe is a little off and I’m a little bewildered after all her uptempo bangers, they came out with the laid back cut like this. To me this is more like 3rd single action. “Pro Nails” is still her best cut to date and I play it out all the time.

Me. Jerome Baker III. The club DJ.

Live at Jin 9-19-08 Pt. 1…This is my early in the night R&B 10:30 - 11:00 set. Its a good look and had the sexy lawyer jawns getting loose.

Live at Jin 9-19-08 Pt. 2…You know what set this is…the 11-12:30 jump. Where the south is rockin and Lil Wayne songs are STRRROOOOONG. Lots of heat here and the mixing is quite good.

Live @ Jin 9-19-08 Pt. 3…1am - 2:30AM = Hip Hop & Reggae. The damn thang was done.

Feedback is appreciated.

Pictures from Pac Div, Q Tip, and a bunch of other folks performing in NYC. I can just tell from the first few pictures that streetwear is definitely in the building.

Epic’ly Laterd, Gino Pt. 5

Cosmo Baker “The Funk Doc Chronicles”…y’all should know by now that Cosmo is a beast and this mixtape doesn’t disappoint at all. Quality through and through, and this makes me want to be a better DJ.

Mr. Kim x Nike x Hollywood = Hollyhood

Mia Moretti x Discobelle = a pretty good mix. The track selection is solid and its mixed well. I’ve peeper homegirls steez on Myspace and she seems to be a fixture on the LA party scene and is rocking a bit in NYC as well. Keep grindin.

JadaKiss Audio Heroine (The Mixtape

Obey (and Z Trip) for Obama…San Francisco (I think) lookin ILLLLLLL….we got BaRock The Vote coming up in DC October 10th and if it can be half as dope as this looks, I’ll be more than satisfied.

LOMO By FATS…ill pictures taken with the Staple Lomo Camera. I’ve got a fish eye Lomo camera, which I need to break out this week if I can buy some film. I definitely need to cop a fresh Lomo and get the photog game crackn again.

DJ Excel interview and at the same time…..

DJ Excel - Runnin Reckless from Philly to Texas…dude is super ill and ripped The Rub party in Brooklyn this past Saturday night.

An interview w/Pase Rock thats a good read.

Q Tip doing the damn thing @ the Knitting Factory…to say he was hyped is an understatement. (spotted @ Nahright)

Fourstar Clothing x Brooklyn Banks…if I move back out west I’m wearing nothing but gear from skate companies. Carroll khakis and fourstar/girl/choc t shirts will make up my wardobe. Raw denim in 106 degree heat doesn’t turn me on.

Catchsubs continues to work 10x harder than me grind like very few others and has dropped yet another mix, this time with the help of DJ Ayres and Jess Jubilee. The mix is a promo mix for their house/rave/disco party titled “Flashing Lights” they throw every Friday night in Brooklyn. Download the mix here and read Catchdubs explanation about the mix and party and find motivation.

Hip Hop Crunch recently came out with a list of their top 50 hip hop blogs. As you can see WE did not make the top 50…however coming in at #55 in better than yours…..woooo hoooo!! I don’t really know what that means BUT I will say that I’ve been slacking on the blogging, more so to do job transitions, life actually popping off, and other shit in general. I’m back on the wagon and ready to get it in people, we’re shooting for that numero uno. Shout to The Couch Sessions @ #52 as well.

GlenJamn x T Pain x Stretch Armstrong x Floukids x…..

Raphael Saadiq x Jay Z…song is different. I mean I’ve been a Saadiq song since the 2nd Tony Toni Tone album, and feel dude has been overlooked and underrated for to long. That said he coulda cooked up something a little hotter for Hov. I still spin “Lets Get Down” with DJ Quik on a consistent basis.
