The Hip-Hop Duke Ellington

On February 10th, 2006 not just Hip-Hop but music lost one of its purest talents in James Yancey AKA J Dilla. Jay’s passion for music was unmatched and his unique ear created some of the most soaring and soulful sonic soundscapes to ever come through a set of speakers. A wide variety of artists benefited from the production talents of Dilla, including, but not limited to The Roots, Busta Rhymes, Common, Talib Kweli and countless others. Yancey was just as compelling as a solo artist releasing such masterpieces as “Welcome To Detroit” and “Donuts”. He will posthumously bless fans once again in March 2007 with a re-release of a little known album entitled “Ruff Draft”.

HHNLive.com acknowledges and cherishes the achievements and contributions to music provided by the man many times known simply as Dilla. The passion he had for music is something sadly missing from much modern day compositions and his loss left a gaping hole in the world of arts & entertainment. In the physical form Dilla is gone but his music grows stronger with each passing day and he will live on in the name of good music.

R.I.P. James Yancey AKA J Dilla AKA Jay Dee…and thank you for being special.
