Yay Areas Finest…

The relationshop between hip hop music and females seems to always walk the thin line between love and hate. Artists make songs for females, but on the next track will be disrespecting those same females like they don’t have a mother. I can’t respect it. I can respect Es Shaw however. She keeps it real with her opinionon the state of the music and culture.

As one of the leading purveyors of online hip hop sites that cover everything from news to breaking artists, Es got that crack y’all. I was supposed to post this over @ the jumpoff but I wanted to show some personal love to homegirl for linking me the past week, preparing my latest mixtape for visual superiority and just being a cool ass person….

whats crackn chica, whats going on?
Whats the business rome..

For those that don’t already know, explain yourself and your site
(background, history, location, etc.)?

I started beautiful hustle, maybe three, four months ago. Alas, someone hated on me regarding me putting up music, and complained to my server who shut the site down. Because the site was in high demand, random people offered space, time, and cash.. but I denied it for a good minute. Then, my girl up in the town, Ardella hooked it up and I’m back online like whaaaaaat, lol! Nah but, the site basically right now is my little area as to where I can showcase music, artists, and news. People know me as one to always have something new and hot so I figure, fuck it let me share this with the world. It’s based here, where I am.. Sacramento. And being a big part of the bay area scene, and being born and raised in the bay myself, alot of beautifulhustle will focus on the Bay Area… and the countless emails I’ve received of people commending that is all love.

What is the biggest story of 2005?…both personally and professionally?
Biggest story of 2005? RIP Tookie. People will say, “he deserved it..”, “well if he hadn’t killed four people..”, “let him hang..”, but people do not realize that it is BIGGER then Tookie, and probably never will. The lopsided ass level at which black males get the death penalty is the bigger picture we all need to look at. The way that others who have done more, who get away with more, who are white, is part of the bigger picture we need to wake up to. Those who are pro-death penalty, and still have the balls (however small they are), to go to church on Sunday, knowing that man will never be, has never been one to judge? No words.

Who had the best album (of any genre, u know that OTHER shit) and why?
Best album - Too damn many to name. I’m lovin the new Lil Wayne, Carter II of course. It’s just ridiculous. And then there is Three 6 Mafia’s album, The Most Known Unknowns, Shit I enjoyed Twistas album.. production is ridiculous. Just too many, I can’t narrow it down to one. And mixtapes, dont get me started on mixtapes! From Thizz Nation and Doonie and Laroo to The Clipse and The Suffix..

Being that the 3 of you are important to the game, how do u see the world of blogs as it relates to african american news, celebrities, and music?
It’s next up to bat. There are bloggers who are just regular people like you and I. There are bloggers who write for Vibe, XXL, and The Source. There are writers for the AP who blog. There are celebrities who blog. It’s a way of getting out our words to those who may or may not relate, but who understand. Theres Fresh and Angel writing about black pop culture, because it does exist. And here I am writing about hip hop music, and all that pertains to it.. because it isn’t publicized as it should be through main media outlets.

Why do u feel like some of the bigger and more popular blogs don’t pay attention to african american issues, news, music, etc.?
Plays puppet in the game, writes what the crowd wants to hear, writes what will attract the crowd. No solid opinion whatsoever.

What makes you want to read a site and what doesn’t make you want to read a site (any site from cnn to whatever)?
Content. Text. Appearance. If you’ve got more then enough content on your page, it’ll keep me on there. If the text I’m reading appeals to me, and gives off as if you know what you’re writing about, and if it evokes an emotion from me, it’ll keep me on there. If your shit aint booboo ugly, I will stay on there.

What do u think is the most pressing issue for the hip hop community? Also what do u think is the least pressing issue for the hip hop community that gets the most attention?
The beef and the No Snitching movement being commercialized and sold to the masses on T-Shirts for $9.99. The stupid beef and shit that has resulted in the beef this year has really been irritating me. It’s funny at times, but the way shit plays out, you can just tell who bitched out and who is just playing it for publicity. Either way, in any beef, both sides lose. Thus.. people come together (peep Nas & J.Hova). As for the Stop Snitching shit, the act in itself, has been around for the longest, and the fact that these kids out here are rocking the shirts, not knowing the basis of it just thinking “Oh, you don’t snitch period.”, is ignorance to me. “Well yeah, many have died because they DIDNT snitch..”, but many more have been saved because they didn’t snitch either. It’s more then a tee-shirt.

Who wins the H.A.M. (y’all know) award for 2005?
Vivica A Fox.

What are you looking fwd to the most in 2006?
Progression in life, music, and art. Also, E-40 The Ghetto Report Card, Lil Wayne - The Carter III, T.I - The King, and the Bay Area steppin up to bat and hittin a home run!!

What can we expect from you and your site/movement in 2006?
The site will expand, trust that. It will involve alot more music, and alot more artists. As for me, I’m working with alot of people right now, and stepping my game up within the music industry. With that, and with the site.. there will be more to look foward to, for me, and my readers. Still the same ol humble female Im known to be, just a little bit more to be humble about.

Any last words/shout outs?
ID LIKE TO GIVE THANKS TO GOD… WITHOUT HIM I WOULDNT BE WHO I AM. ALSO MY PARENTS, I LOVE YALL.. lol.. nah but forreal…

Nice. She’s a little wild with the hood shout outs though, but I do enjoy her site to an extent. Those damn, “Coming Soon” pages that she continuously puts up, irks me to the tenth degree!! But she’s still rather fly I must say.
