I received this email last night, peep game:
I have held my tongue for long enough about the crap that people are saying is hip hop. I will show you the statement that broke the camel’s back.
“I wasn’t going to put it out there,” Swizz said of “I’m a Hustla.” “We had recorded and I was going to hold. Cassidy took it to the clubs in Philly and it just took off. [Funkmaster] Flex wanted it immediately. He called me out on the radio and said that it was the craziest thing he had heard since [Notorious B.I.G.’s] ‘Who Shot Ya.’ ”
“I’m a hustla” should not be said in the same breathe as anything written by Christopher Wallace? Are you MAD?
“I can sell raid to a bug. I’m a hustler I can sell salt to a slug” This n!gg@ must have just found out about slugs and I bet Swiss went absolutly insane when he heard that line. Thinking that this illiterate Philly Hustler had just written “There Eyes Were Watching God.”
Does anyone remember the first time you heard “Who Shot Ya?” If you liken it to the first time you heard “I’m a Hustla” I can never speak to you.
Who shot ya?
Seperate the weak from the ob-solete
Hard to creep them Brooklyn streets
It’s on nigga, fuck all that bickering beef
I can hear sweat trickling down your cheek
Your heartbeat soun like Sasquatch feet
Thundering, shaking the concrete
Finish it, stop, when I foil the plot
Neighbors call the cops said they heard mad shots
Saw me in the drop, three in the corner
That is rap in it’s essence. Intricate rhyme scheme. Well thought out and interesting. Vivid and beautiful. F Cassidy for that matter F The Game.
The Game’s debut album “The Documentary” is #1 - Aftermath finally did it again. We heard The Game is platinum
Let’s talk about The Game for a second. I was born and raised in NY. I have been to Cali a number of times. I have chilled in Compton and have respect for Quik, Short, Old School Xibit and Cube, and Ras.
But he has nothing on them.
I have heard a few of his tracks. They do not move me in the least. Ok, he is a Blood. But what does that have to do with rap. That is what they are using as his biggest selling point. BIG’s sellingpoint was that is from Brooklyn, Nas is from QueensBridge but The Game is Compton Blood which makes his HARD ok. But that does not make him a rapper. The rhymes you write is what makes you a R-A Double P E-R.
More later I have work to do.
I definitely will respond, but I want to see how y’all feel about it.
